The next Circular Tayside event will be hosted by the team at the James Hutton Institute, Invergowrie. We’ll hear more about how they’re championing the Circular Economy and get a tour of their vertical indoor farm, the first of its kind in Scotland.
The James Hutton Institute is a well-respected and globally recognised research organisation delivering fundamental and applied science to drive the sustainable use of land and natural resources.
Professor Derek Stewart will give attendees an insight into the work they are doing to support and promote the Circular Ecomony, how it fits within their industry and tell us more about some of the collaborative work they’ve been doing with other businesses to help create a Circular Tayside. Derek is responsible for developing the research opportunities on agriculture, food and drink supply and value chains, production systems, biomass, waste valorisation and the (bio)circular economy
We’ll also get a tour of their vertical farm which opened in August 2018. The vertical farm offers huge reductions in water wastage, the elimination of the use of pesticides and a huge reduction in food miles. It allows produce to be grown locally and on demand, which could reduce fresh food waste by up to 90 per cent.
