Iain Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland, said:
“Following an announcement made today (Friday 11 March 2022) by Circular Economy Minister, Lorna Slater, we at Zero Waste Scotland welcome the confirmation of a May date for public consultation on a Circular Economy Bill. As a key player working closely with the Scottish Government, Circular Communities Scotland, and numerous other bodies to drive the circular economy in Scotland, this is a huge milestone in our nation’s progression towards a more sustainable way of living and operating.”
What we can take away from the decision of Iain Gulland is the following –
- Zero Waste Scotland has encouraged Scotland to use products and resources sustainably, with a focus on areas where we can have the most influence on climate change. Our mission is to inform policy and persuade individuals and companies to embrace the environmental, economic, and social benefits of a circular economy by using facts and insight. They firmly think that in order to combat climate change, we must first identify and quantify the effect of how we live, and that a Circular Economy Bill will serve as the foundation upon which to build.
- Scotland is no stranger to pioneering work in circularity, and our country has been able to show the world some excellent examples of sustainable solutions in action across a variety of industries. The Circular Economy Bill will include measures and practises that will solidify and sustain the progress we’ve made so far.
- The next vital step that needs to happen can allow the public to have a say in Scotland’s circular vision, and they can’t wait to bring more people along on our path to a greener Scotland, and a greener world.
