Trudy Cunningham has been working, volunteering and leading in all sustainability matters for many years. With an impressive education in Sustainability and renewable Energy, she has been the Environment & Sustainability Officer for Dundee University for 13 years. She has also been a Fellow in the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC) and heavily involved in third sector initiatives, the University’s allotments and sustainability research.
Two of the Circular Economy projects she has run in the University so far are:
-A furniture re-use store operating since 2014. Within the HE sector there is a move away from large ‘L’ shaped desks as they switched from CRT to flat-screen monitors, and also increased use of ‘hot desks’. This has resulted in a surplus of large desks and other larger pieces of equipment. The store donates any surplus furniture to local charities (and local council) who are in need of office equipment.
-Setting up recycling points in all residences for end of term recycling in 2010. Products are then re-distributed to new students arriving in September. Also in 2010, she set up a Freeshop on campus where students can donate or collect a variety of things e.g. clothes, kitchen ware, shoes, books, cables, bedding, art materials, folders, pens etc. They also have a free folders and pens boxes set up in main library.
