Andy Simpson is one of our most engaged Ambassadors. With a long career in manufacturing and working for global organisations, he started his own company in Brechin, Angus 3D Solutions. The company is quite different from traditional manufacturing companies, as it uses cutting edge additive manufacturing technology (3D Printing). This process reduces waste significantly and takes advantage of every bit of resource. Andy applied for and was awarded a £175.000 grant from Zero Waste Scotland to buy the latest technology for 3D printing metals, the Markforged Metal X, which uses the latest Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) technology to create objects with unprecedented levels of detail as well as faster than ever. In addition, waste is reduced in the design phase and obsolete parts can be produces, increasing the lifespan of old machinery and assets.
We have been very lucky to have Andy on our team as he has an incredible amount of knowledge on his industry, and has gone through all the funding “hoops” and can now advise us as well as other businesses on how to do the same.
