Wendy Callander is the Executive Director of Wellbeing Works, a mental health charity based in the Wellgate Centre, providing support to those who face mental health challenges in Dundee.
Mental health and the environment are inextricable linked, and we are seeing increasing numbers of people with anxieties based around climate change. In supporting these participants, our philosophy is that we can’t change the world, but we can educate and inform people in how we might change our individual behaviours and choices.
To support our core work, we recently launched a new social enterprise project, the Community Toolbox. This project is based on a tools library model, and encourages people to borrow, not buy the everyday things that they don’t need every day, for example, a carpet cleaner, power tools, fold away bed etc. Our aims are to improve wellbeing, and tackle inequalities and climate change by promoting a sharing culture that means we buy less and share more. Once registered, members can borrow as many items as they need, and when they need them.
